At Vantage Toyota Knaresborough, we have been steering Ashville Junior School pupils in the right direction for their annual design and technology project.
Every year, Year 5 students at Ashville Junior school are tasked with designing and making a car that is then track-tested in front of their peers during a hotly contested Grand Prix Car Race finale. To help them create a vehicle that would travel further than their rival’s, the 10 and 11 year olds spent a morning with our team at our showroom in Knaresborough, where they were lucky enough to receive advice from our motor trade experts!
In addition to inspecting and examining the Toyota range, the students learned about aerodynamics and how Toyota sets about designing cars for both the race track and the open road. The culmination of the term’s work saw all the pupils compete in an event where the cars were judged on the criteria of furthest distance travelled, most aerodynamic and best design. The important task of deciding the winner fell to Vantage Toyota After Sales Manager, Graham Salt, who spent the morning witnessing the cars in action and carefully examining each model!
Ashville Junior School Headmaster Simon Bailey said: “The Year 5 design- a-car project is something our pupils look forward to each and every year. The competition is hotly contested and a huge amount of fun! It has been wonderful to see the children’s original ideas go through the whole process of design, manufacturing and testing during the course of the term." He addeed, "The creativity, discussion and learning that the project has highlighted has been invaluable. Again, we have been given tremendous support from the Knaresborough Vantage Toyota team. I would like to thank Graham and the team for welcoming the pupils to their showroom and for attending the competition and judging the entries.”
